Markets help to build connections in our communities, functioning as bridges between urban and rural landscapes, letting consumers connect with their food producers, and introducing people to a diversity of fresh foods that cannot be found elsewhere. Federal farmers’ market nutrition programs aim to increase the access to these fresh, healthy foods for low-income mothers, children, and to senior citizens. As a result, many farmers and community members alike are more aware of the food needs in their communities.
